“Life is like a big merry-go-round. You’re up and then down. Going in circles trying to get to where you are.”
What does the word “no” mean to you? What emotions are stirred when you are told
There are various reactions one can take from that two-letter word, ranging from complete shut down to igniting the fire needed to take you to the next level. True, this one word has a mighty force behind it, but don't let it be the one thing standing in your way.
Your response will set you up for the next steps of your journey; it's all in how you decide you want to approach what comes next.
Let's explore a few reasons why taking ownership of that “no” can be a power tool in your life.
Prove others wrong.
Yes. There will always be naysayers and your cheering corner may be small or non-existent. Why should it matter if others don’t see your vision? It’s YOURS for a reason. So keep doing you and don’t let others stand in your way. It won’t be easy getting to where you're going. It may take a long time to get to where you are going. But you will get there! Listening to the naysayers won’t get you there. So, keep it moving!
Got a vision that no one else sees. Lot of dirty work, roll up your sleeves. ...And even though they’re wrong, don’t prove ‘em right.”
If you are the one telling yourself “no”, it’s time to change your mindset. GET OUT OF YOUR WAY! Take comfort in knowing that the vision is there for a reason. Trust yourself with it. Be confident in yourself to know that you will make it to the next level. Standing
tall shows that you are in control of your destiny.
“I’d rather stand tall. Than live on my knees.”
Look at it as the beginning of a challenge, not the end of your journey.
Sometimes we need to be told “no” in order to get us on the right path. By accepting every yes, we will run into pitfalls that will take us longer to get to our desired destiny. A “no” can be used to make us think more critically, revise our current plans, become more creative, and introduce us to other turns along the journey that make it worth while to pause and reflect for some time. Look at “no” as a challenge rather than an end. Perseverance is key to getting to where you are going. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it, right?
“Cause I am a conqueror. And I won’t accept defeat.”
It’s just a word.
When contemplating asking someone something, my mama always told me, “All they can tell you is no”. It’s just a word! It doesn’t stop the work that needs to be done. It may not sound good and may dampen your mood, but in the end, it is just a word. Keep pushing until you get your “yes”. Don’t let two letters that happen to be side-by-side in the alphabet keep you from being and doing your best. If anything, switch those letters around and tell yourself, “It’s ON!” Let that “no” fuel you to your “yes”. Push yourself through until you accomplish what you know you could do along.
“Try telling me no. One thing about me. Is I am a conqueror.”
It is very possible to make your dreams a reality, no matter how big or small. Taking advantage of challenges may be what's needed to make it to the next level.
Stay in the ring so that you can claim your prize.
